Violence should not be used to solve conflict.
With reference to one of the link provided, the idea of pacifism is that war and violence are unjustifiable, and that conflicts should be settled in a peaceful way. We should not use violence because violence breed violence and it will ultimately become a never ending vicious cycle because they will be revolving around revenge in the end. In this way, violence not only have not solved the conflicts and problems, but caused more to arise. Innocent victims of violence, and people who think that they are not in the wrong, will try all ways and means to take revenge, and this cycle goes on and on. However pacifism, using the soft way, will be able to persuade and convince the people to give and take, and resolving conflicts and problems with a win-win situation. This way, peace has become the ultimate solution. Also, violence is forced obedience for a short period of time, not a lasting solution. No matter the reason that sparked off violence, it is not a good solution because most of the time violence results in destructions. Violence will lead to wrong morals conveyed to children. Violence, being what adults do to resolve conflicts, will imprint the wrong values to them. Whereas pacifism emphasize on being peace-loving and insistent on not going to war and get involved with violence, it will leave a great impact on children that peace and harmony are how they should be. However, we are not saying that violence is totally not accepted. For example, Qin Shi Huang from the Qin Dynasty. He used violence to unified China, and ruled over his empire successfully till his death. Though he used violence and rule over people by force, it's still evident that this strategy worked to a certain extent. Weighing all the factors, violence may be able to work at times, however it is not an ideal solution. Therefore, violence should not be used to solve conflict. |
